Battle of Academies

Battle of Academies will support college coaches, junior players, and academies across North Carolina and the entire country!

Mission Statement

Our goal is to provide junior players with an exceptional opportunity to prepare for collegiate competition while fostering a strong sense of teamwork within academy practices. By adopting a team-based approach, we aim to break away from the individual mindset that often dominates the sport, creating a healthier, more collaborative environment. This concept has already gained approval from college coaches across the nation, who see it as a valuable recruiting tool. Ultimately, it will not only accelerate player development but also help forge meaningful friendships among players, building a foundation of trust and camaraderie that will set them up for success on and off the court.

Concept Overview

In our academy's team competition format, players will participate in a college-style team match against another academy. Each match will consist of 6 singles and 3 doubles events, and teams will be grouped into different divisions based on player skill levels. This format mimics what college coaches look for and provides players with real-world exposure to college-level competition.

Divisions

Division 1: UTR 5.5 and above

Division 2: UTR 3.25 - 5.5

Division 3: UTR 1 - 3.25

All singles matches will be UTR verified.

Division/Team Assignment

Players can stay in the division or team they were placed in at the beginning of the year, regardless of changes to their UTR ranking later in the season

Academy with multiple teams

Choose to remain in their original team for the entire year, even if their UTR ranking changes.
Move up or down a division if their UTR ranking places them in a different bracket at the time of any given match

Academy with one team

If an academy only has one team signed up, players can continue competing throughout the year, regardless of whether their UTR ranking exceeds or falls below the initial limit set at the time of sign-up

UTR Description at Sign-Up

Players must meet the UTR criteria when they sign up, but after that, they are not required to adjust their team or division based on changes in their UTR during the year

This structure ensures some flexibility, especially for players in academies with multiple teams, while maintaining consistency for those in single-team academies.

To enhance exposure for players and facilitate college scouting, we will provide a live ranking system of academies in each division. This offers both coaches and players insight into their progress and ranking, preparing players for the college transition and the competitive environment they will face in collegiate tennis.

Benefits for Academies

Added Value for Players

Not only does this provide financial benefits, but the team-based competition adds an entirely new dimension to player development. Junior players will become accustomed to a team-first mentality, gaining exposure to college coaches who can scout them in real match environments

No Poaching Guarantee

This concept includes a “no poaching guarantee,” ensuring that academies participating in the program do not have to worry about talent poaching. This fosters a safe and supportive environment for all involved

Exposure and Growth

This program gives players the chance to grow faster in an environment where teamwork is encouraged, and it provides valuable exposure to collegiate recruiters across the country

Schedule

Match Schedule

We believe the 12 team matches will fit seamlessly into our players' schedules. Fridays during the school year will serve as a nice warm-up for players involved in tournaments that particular weekend. Wednesdays during the summer will provide additional match play during the week, when there is typically no other competition

Conference Playoffs

The top four teams in each division will compete in a playoff tournament, culminating in regional and national championships
